Bonds of Blood

From Horror MUX
Jump to: navigation, search

Set in Spring of 1994, Bonds of Blood is a Vampire story in the mold of Lost Boys and Salem's Lot. It takes place in 90's Spring Break mecca Lake Havasu City, AZ., where the old London Bridge was moved in the late 60's. It's a tourist trap town on the Colorado River built around the Bridge and a kitschy English Village next to/under it. While it's a fun place to visit - and MTV does for Spring Break each year - it's like any other small town to grow up in - slow and boring. A bit odd, but normal for most of the year.

PCs this story can be High School Seniors (18), or adults (18+). There are five families to choose from, and each has extended family options. Each age group and each Family have certain Perks and Quirks tailored just to them.

Epilogue

Morrison Lester (Archetype)

After Fran's death, Morrison helped pack up Lucas and Landon to see them off to California early, and then moved to Vegas with Theodore, where they got an apartment of their own. There, he pursued his boxing career and eventually went pro.

Felicity Bloomquist (Archetype)

Felicity follows through on her plans, because, really, that's part of what Felicity does. At least the plans that can still happen. So she goes to Cal Tech and she sets up an IRC for everyone from their class and makes sure the people she cares about know how to access it. And when the checks from Hector's estate start showing up, she dumps them into an emerging market fund because... she can't quite just throw it away, but she's not sure she actually wants it, either. And maybe sometime she'll get better, or maybe catching sight of buskers out of the corner of her eye will always have a chance of her breaking down in sobs. And there will be Christmas in New York with the Marchants and Spear. And something like a life, if a much bleaker one than she had planned for the last few months.

Theodore Marchant (Archetype)

Theo left Lake Havasu and moved to Vegas with Morrison. He took a job as general counsel for one of the casinos in the city looking to make a name for himself away from the shadow of his father.

Georgina "George" Lester (Archetype)

After failing to graduate high school, George stuck around town for awhile, trying to expose the vampire secret. She eventually ran off with a bad-news boyfriend and ended up in Chicago, where she got caught up in an Anarchist movement and eventually turned activist/protester against the Iraq War.

Silver Luna Thistle (Archetype)

In a surprise to any but a select few, Silver went to Yale insted of West Virginia. A term late as she stayed to help with the sticky situations left by Hector and Cash's death. When she did head to Yale it was to study Photography, not law. With every intent to find a way to photograph ghosts and other cryptids. Keeping things weird.

Lake Havasu City

LHC.jpg

Lake Havasu City was made by widening the Colorado River into a man-made lake with an island close to shore and bridging the channel with the original London Bridge, brought over stone by stone from England and reassembled. It has a population of just over 28k. About 7k of this are retired East Coast 'snowbirds' who only live there part-time and routinely vote down any property tax measures intended to help the school district or city. Of course. The rest are families, some who have lived there for generations, most however are escapees from California. It is overwhelmingly white with some Hispanic residents and very few black or Asian residents, though this is improving. In summary, it's a predominantly white, conservative, Christian, suburban town. It voted heavily for Bush over Clinton.

It's a major tourist town, both because of the world famous London Bridge and the lake. MTV recently started doing Spring Break from Havasu (as locals call it) and is again this year. During Spring Break and Summer holiday weekends the population can balloon to 100k, turning the place into a zoo. A sizable number of residents work in hospitality and local business depends on these times for a good year. A replica English Village has been built on the island end of the bridge and is filled with shops, eateries and attractions.

The other major employer is the McCulloch diecast factory, which mostly pours parts for chainsaws. It's a fairly dangerous workplace between liquid metal boilers and casting machines, but it pays well.

It has one high school, one junior high school, and five elementary schools. It also has a community college.

The city is built on a hill, sloping down to the lake. The highway in and out is a long stretch of dangerously twisty, cliff-side road. Because of its geography, there is no single street that is both straight AND flat - it's like they got a snake drunk and followed it around, drawing a map. Streets all over have massive, 6'-12' dips in them where washes cut through to ease flooding during the epic flash-flood season every August and September, though flash-floods can hit at any time. During such floods these washes become dangerous rivers that will sweep away cars and kill people. In the heaviest of floods parts of town are cut off completely. When not flooded, these same washes are used by local teens to have parties - wash parties - where anything goes away from adult supervision.

The downtown district of town is on McCulloch Blvd and starts at Acoma Blvd and ends at Route-95, just shy of the bridge. Smith's and Safeway are the main grocery stores, there's a Hastings, and Harkins just opened the first multiplex in town, the two existing single-screen theaters now switching to dollar theaters to survive.

Kokomo and Reflections are the two nightclubs, both in the English Village, all the fast food chains are present, and the Nautical Inn and Ramada Inn dominate the island, along with the English Village and Crazyhorse Campground.

Upper-middle class families live just beyond downtown. Middle class neighborhoods spread out from there. The working class and poor live in the outer edges, and the wealthiest live atop the hills. The island is strictly hotels, beaches, shopping and attractions.

The Lake

HavasuLake.jpg

The lake is the main source of recreation and entertainment, with Rotary Park on the mainland and Crazyhorse Campground on the island as the main beaches. It's a man-make lake and features sailing, speed-boating, water-skiing, para-skiing (up in the air via parachute pulled by a boat), and jet-skiing.

There are numerous small islands for exploration, camping and picnics, many tucked away in hidden coves. Houseboats are everywhere during Spring Break and Summer.

Copper Canyon

CopperCanyon.jpg

The biggest landmark out on the lake is Copper Canyon, a large cove with high cliffs for jumping. On the busiest of weekends it will be filled with literal boat-to-boat action all the way to shore, making it one big floating party. While the cliffs at Copper Canyon are largely safe for diving, alcohol factors in to a number of deaths there each year.

Lake Havasu High School

LHHS.jpg

Lake Havasu High School has roughly 900 students divided fairly equally between all four years. It is a closed campus with a full-service cafeteria featuring a broad menu, has an automotive shop, wood shop, architecture/CAD program, and even a TV production program that partners with KBBC TV to produce a weekly Knightlife News show on local cable. The school has a theater department (classes, not a drama club) that teams up with art, band and choir to put on shows. The Fall show is usually Shakespeare, and the Spring show is usually a musical.

All typical American athletics are represented by teams, and the mascot is The Knights/Lady Knights. Girls' Volleyball, Boys' Baseball and Girls' Softball are the school's best sports, but football and both basketball teams draw the biggest crowds. The school has a major rivalry with sister school Mohave HS (Bullhead City, Thunderbirds), which has an identical blueprint and used the same shovel to break ground several years after LHHS. A yearly football game called the Golden Shovel game determines who gets it each year and is a big event, along with Homecoming and Prom. The other big rival is Kingman HS (Bulldogs).

The school has a student counseling program called Peer Crisis Counselors where students that pass screening can counsel other students having social difficulties. While they are required to report potential harm (self or other), everything else is strictly confidential. Having fellow teens listen to each others' problems has proven rather successful.

The Principal, Dr. Eleanor Ruth, has been with the school for nearly twenty years.

Teachers: Michael Stanhope - French (Beast SR), Ian Thistle - History (Pedagogue), Alicia Thistle - Drama (Survivor) Ms. V. Hellenbrand - Chorus/Choir (Confidant SR), Ms. Moghaddam - Art (Martyr SR), Mr. Kim - Guidance Counselor (Addict SR)

The English Village

EnglishV1.jpg

The English Village is like something from a Hollywood set, a kitschy recreation of 'London' tucked up under the bridge on the island end. Everything from Beefeaters restaurant and London Bridge Pub to Big Ben's cafe and Hawaiian Shaved Ice stands fill it in along with souvenir shops, clothing and jewelry shops, boat ride and rental stalls, an arcade shooting gallery, and London Arms, a heraldry and tea room. Directly nestled under the last arch of the bridge is a stage where concerts are held and numerous local events. Ducks get up out of the water and hassle tourists for scraps. Big, aggressive, crazy ducks. You can enter through the main walk, or through a large hedge maze that's popular with kids and tourists.

Gaggles of Japanese tourist groups filter through with cameras in Winter to help keep business going, but Spring Break and Summer are the big seasons. The London Bridge Days Parade and Art Festival are in the Fall, along with Octoberfest. Everything gets lit up for Christmas each year, too. On graduation night the entire English Village is closed off for the graduating class and their +1s, a DJ plays on the stage until 3am, and (alcohol free) fun is had. Once you leave, however, you cannot re-enter.

London Bridge

Bridge2.jpg

The original London Bridge was bought by Robert P. McCulloch in 1968 and moved stone by stone to bridge the newly dug 'English Channel' in Lake Havasu City, AZ. It was completed in 1971. To this day you can still see the numbering on some of the stones.

Not all of the bridge was used, however, and a portion of stone was made into souvenirs of all kinds, from ash trays to chess sets. These are sold at various shops in the English Village.

The bridge is the only connection from the mainland to the island, and is only two lanes wide each way. It's fairly low to the water - tourists often jump off of it into the channel below, and the biggest risk is landing on a passing boat instead. It happens.

It is the second most popular tourist spot in Arizona, behind only the Grand Canyon.

Popular Hangouts

Below are a few specific popular locations you can RP in. More may be added as we go. Most of these are all-ages, but a few may be marked as Adult Only (21+).

Big Ben's

BigBen1.jpg

Owned and operated by the Reeds (Freeland-related), this cafe is a mashup of the London Alt-Rock scene and a modern coffeehouse. Everything is music-themed, with food and drinks named after rockstars and bands from Ziggy Stardust to Kurt Cobain. Popular with tourists in season, it's a favorite of young locals the rest of the year. Located in the English Village.

London Arms

LondonArms.jpg

Part heraldry shop and part English tea room, London Arms is owned and operated by Chinese-Englishman David Chen. He moved to Havasu shortly after the bridge did, and his shop was one of the first in the English Village. In addition to heraldry and family crests, he's something of an expert on London Bridge lore and has lots of strange and mysterious stories to tell tourists and locals alike. Some of the high school crowd frequent his tea room and listen to his stories, and are quite welcome there.

Kokomo

Kokomo.jpg

Crown jewel of the Nautical Inn on the island, Kokomo is an outdoor pool and beach club that's always packed in Spring and Summer. Owned and operated by the Marchant family, it has a tiki theme and tropical drink focus. Located in the English Village, Adults Only.

Rotary Park

RotaryPark.jpg

Rotary Park is the main part of public beach and run by the Park and Recreation Department. It has baseball and softball diamonds for Little League, a handicapped accessible playground including a swing for wheelchairs, and lots of covered picnic tables accompanied by barbecue grills. Lastly there's the beach, a section of which is open to boats anchoring from the lake. Buoys mark these areas off so swimmers are safe, as well as signal where the gradual slope of the beach gets suddenly deeper.

Crazyhorse Campground

CrazyHorse.jpg

Located on the outermost edge of the island, Crazyhorse Campground is operated by Park and Rec and is where the marina is, allowing boats to be launched or hauled in onto trailers. There are lots of docks, plenty of camping areas, and more public beach space, too.

Thistle Family

The Thistle family - many are civil servants or officials, including Police Chief Nancy Thistle (early 50s). While there are no recognized family heads like there were in Prosperity, this being 1994, Nancy is the oldest of the Thistles currently in Havasu. She has two younger siblings that also reside in town: Raymond Thistle (40s) who owns and operates the Lake Havasu Funeral Home, and another sibling that can be a PC in a teacher, clergy or city official role (age/gender negotiable).

Character Options: At present, Ray and Vanessa are full up on kids with triplets. A Senior child of Ray and Cassie is still possible, as are adult children of theirs. Nancy and Hank still have openings for grandkids (you make the parents), and Ian has an open slot for a Senior kid.

Discuss ideas with TD.

Bloomquist Family

The Bloomquist Family - mostly involved with local media, including KBBC radio owner Lonn Bloomquist. While there are no recognized family heads like there were in Prosperity, this being 1994, Lonn is the oldest of the Bloomquists currently in Havasu. He has three children that also reside in town: Erik (40s) who owns and operates an art gallery, Ellen (early 30s) who runs The Herald, and a child that can be involved in broadcasting/media/entertainment in some fashion (age/gender negotiable).

Character Options: Erik and Stina are full on Senior kids with twins, but have room for adult children. Ellen is too young for a playable PC but could be caring for a Senior kid cousin or two as guardian. There is also Stina's sibling open for an adult PC, and any kids they might have.

Discuss ideas with TD.

Freeland Family

The Freeland family - mostly local construction contractors and business owners, including Gary Freeland of Freeland Flooring and Roofing. While there are no recognized family heads like there were in Prosperity, this being 1994, Gary is the oldest of the Freelands currently in Havasu. He has two younger siblings that also reside in town: Becca (40s) who owns and operates Big Ben's Cafe down in the English Village, and another sibling that can be a PC in a business or criminal role (age/gender negotiable).

Character Options: Both Gary/Stacey and Becca/Morgan have one Senior kid each, but could have twins, and adult children are welcome, too. Also, there's still an adult opening for a third Freeland sibling and any kids they might have.

Discuss ideas with TD.

Marchant Family

The Marchant family - mainly wealthy, old money types, including First Havasu Bank CEO Robert Marchant. While there are no recognized family heads like there were in Prosperity, this being 1994, Robert is the oldest of the Marchants currently in Havasu. He has one younger sibling that also reside in town: Vincent (40s) who owns and operates Kokomo's nightclub down in the English Village. Robert's wife, Monique, has a sibling that moved to town and is involved with the family businesses (age/gender negotiable).

Character Options: Robert and Monique already have Senior triplets and an adult child. Another adult (younger than the current one) could work. Vincent has Senior twins, but could have knocked up plenty of women. Also, Monique's sibling and any kids they have are still open.

Discuss ideas with TD.

Lester Family

The Lester family - mainly blue collar working sorts, like McCulloch factory foreman Karl Lester. While there are no recognized family heads like there were in Prosperity, this being 1994, Karl is the oldest of the Lesters currently in Havasu. He has two younger siblings that also reside in town: Amber (40s) who owns and operates Lester's Auto, and another sibling that can be a PC in a working class or criminal role (age/gender negotiable).

Character Options: Karl and Claire have a Senior kid, but they could have had twins, and have one adult child already. Beth already has Senior twins (but not from Karl!), but Donna could have a Senior kid (or twins) with Karl. Amber could use kids of either type. Sebastian has room for Senior kids.

Discuss ideas with TD.

The Painkillers

PKL.jpg

Based (nominally) out of a Motel 6 just outside Topock, North of LHC, this biker gang has a reputation in town for taking in runaways and black sheep. Drugs, theft, extortion, guns - they dabble in a lot of criminal activity but always seem to evade the law. Nothing sticks.

Some see them as a menace, nothing but hoods and ruffians. Others think of them as rogue heroes, fighting the establishment and taking in the lonely and lost. They don't often venture into town proper, but it's not unheard of.

Their symbol is a skull and crossed pills instead of bones.

No monster files listed.

PC Types - Ages and Families

This story, in addition to having 5 Families, is broken into two distinct age groups that will approach the story quite differently. Each comes with unique Perks and Quirks and have different starting perspectives regarding the supernatural. This is all covered below.

Adults (18+)

Any characters that have graduated high school (which CAN include 18-year-olds) are considered Adults. They have jobs, responsibilities, and believe in reasonable, rational things. The supernatural isn't real. There are no such things as vampires. Everything has a believable explanation. They know how the world works, and it will take a LOT to convince them otherwise.

Adults who are 38 and up must be willing to take on an 18-year-old kid PC if requested.

Adults all get a free Area of Expertise Perk (10P), and a Quirk called Adult Mindset (10Q) that makes them try to rationalize and explain away the supernatural, even when experienced firsthand. Secondhand stories are immediately rejected and rationalized, and firsthand encounters require a Spirit Check - a Success means they start to believe as their adult mindset cannot shut down the possibility that Something Really Happened. A Failure means their mind re-writes what happened to something more believable (he wasn't flying, he just jumped!).

High School Seniors (18)

Seniors are technically adults, but they haven't yet graduated and are still more open to the strange and unusual. Senior PCs are in school until IC graduation, then have Summer before going on to whatever they do next. For this group, growing up and facing mortality is a key part of the story. Every 18-year-old in this group needs a parent or parents from one of the 5 Families. Even a distant cousin with patents you design is fine, they don't all have to be kids of Central Casting.

All Seniors get a free Perk called Youthful Exuberance (10P) makes your one re-roll per scene free instead of 3GP. They also get a Quirk called Unreliable (10Q) that reflects that even at their best they're still kids and not always taken seriously or believed. It can further get them in trouble for being out late, being somewhere they aren't supposed to be, and so on.

I've worked it into the story that there is a highly unusual number of twins and even a set of triplets or two among the five Families. It's A Thing, both mused about and mentioned IC. Feel free to lean into that.

Families

PCs this story must come from one of the 5 Families listed in Factions. Your last name need not be the same, and you might only be related by marriage instead of blood, but you're still 'in the family'. Married-in PCs can still get Family Perks and Quirks that reflect the Family traits, but they haven't always had them. Marrying in (or being related to someone who has) and moving to town are required to trigger them. Before that, you didn't have them. See Bloodlines below for details on these Family traits.

The Supernatural

This story takes place in a version of our world where the supernatural is real, though most are unaware. It should be treated ICly as our own world for the most part, but PCs will discover of the story that there's much more going on than they realize. Starting with ACTUAL supernatural knowledge is not allowed, but believing in pop-culture tropes and hokey mysticism is fine. Be kooky, but it won't be accurate.

Bloodlines

While they are unaware IC, each of the 5 Families are descended from supernatural bloodlines. Again, THIS IS NOT KNOWN IC! It may be learned through RP, but you have to earn it. That said, there are just some traits that people generally accept as being that Family's 'thing'.

Thistle: Known to have an interest in ghosts and spirits, and are sometimes sensitive to odd things. Strangeness follows them, and they're considered 'weird' by most.

Bloomquist: Known to be lucky and charismatic, always skating by on charm. They're also terribly curious.

Marchant: In addition to their vast wealth and class, they seem to radiate confidence and respect, and are hard to ruffle. They also have arrogance issues and blind spots.

Freeland: Known for strong will and determination, coming up big in clutch situations. Their ambition sometimes overwhelms them, though, and bites them.

Lester: Seeming to possess sharper senses than most, and famous for their tempers. They can be intimidating, but also lose their control.

Perks and Quirk further detailing these qualities are covered further down.

Vampires

Vampires are the main Monsters of this story, but no one ICly knows about or believes in them when the story starts. These are NOT going to be vampires from any specific game system, world or canon. I'm giving them unique rules and powers from folklore, pop culture and more, so don't be surprised when they can (or can't!) do things you aren't (or are!) used to. You can discover their mythos in the course of the story.

Perks and Quirks

The standard 50 points in Perks (50P) cap is in effect this story. As always, you CAN have more than 50 points in Quirks (50Q), but they do not give extra Perk points.

Each Age Group and each Family have specific Perks and Quirks only for them. Some of these are free, and do not count towards your standard 50P max. Others have a cost and do. Read carefully!

Perks

10 Point Perks
Good Luck

Re-roll 1 die. Once per Scene. You must select which die you wish to reroll.

Adrenaline Boost

Can add an additional +1 die. Once per Scene.

Area of Expertise

Your college education or extracurricular activities give you an edge in a specific field. Can add an ADDITIONAL +1 to a Brains or Finesse roll once per scene in that field.

Bloodline Trait

FREE. Every member of the Family gets these. Always active, not limited use.

Thistle: Spirit sensitivity and resistance. Can roll Spirit to sense the presence of ghosts/spirits nearby (Vampires included), and get +1 on rolls resisting their powers.

Bloomquist: Luck and charm. Get +1 for luck ONLY on rolls where they have no positive quality or bonus of any kind, and get +1 on rolls to charm their way into or out of something.

Marchant: Dignity and class. Get +1 on rolls to resist intimidation or intentional fright (not all Freak-Out Checks), and +1 on rolls involving manners and decorum.

Freeland: Tenacity and drive. Get +1 on rolls to succeed against the odds (where they are at a negative of any kind), and +1 to finish something they've started.

Lester: Keen senses and animal friendship. Get +1 on any roll involving their senses, and can roll Spirit to befriend animals and interact positively with them.

Youthful Exuberance

Restricted to SENIORS ONLY. Free.

Your 3GP cost for a re-roll is waived. Obviously you're young and indestructible.

20 Point Perks
Found Item

At a crucial moment in the story, you can find an object or item you desperately need. Can only be used once per story.

Scream Queen

Once per scene the character can make a blood curdling scream that will stun the monster for the next round.

Steel Yourself

Use before a Freak-Out Check to automatically succeed once per Scene for 3GP.

Versatile

Use a Positive quality in a tagential (other) Stat Check once per Scene.

Bloodline Boon

NOT FREE! This Perk must be bought with points. Can be used only once per scene.

Thistle: Can roll Spirit to communicate with ghosts and spirits and interact with them. On an exceptional success, can compel them.

Bloomquist: Can roll Spirit to manipulate luck around them, causing freak accidents or lucky occurrences. These are minor - tripping someone, a light fizzling out, a traffic signal going green - unless an exceptional success is rolled.

Marchant: Can roll Spirit to exude an air of confidence and authority that gets others to listen and pay attention. On an exceptional success, can get NPCs to go along with basic requests without question.

Freeland: Can roll Spirit and apply the result as bonus dice to a roll of great importance, allowing for great feats under pressure.

Lester: Can roll Spirit to trigger Freak-Out in others through feral intimidation - even Vampires. An exceptional success puts the target at -1 on the Freak-Out Check.

30 Point Perks
Let's End This

Double SP gain on a Stat Check that has a Matched Set. Once per scene for 3GP.

Obscure Death

When your character dies, this Perk is triggered and a body is never found. You may return to play later, alive and kicking.

Back for More

If put in negatives, roll 1d6. On a 4-6, stay at 1 SP and continue. Once per scene for 3GP (if successful).

Quirks

10 Point Quirks
Reputation

Deserved or not, you got a bad rep, and it follows you. -1 Spirit on your first social roll once per scene. Others are encouraged to RP your reputation with and around you.

Two Left Feet

You're clumsy, and your first athletic-type Finesse roll in any scene is at -1. You are encouraged to RP it beyond this.

Small Favor

You owe someone else in your group a small debt.

Bloodline Taint

MANDATORY. Everyone must take this, but it counts towards your 50Q.

Thistle: Strangeness. The Director will have odd things happen around you that you get blamed for.

Bloomquist: Curiosity. The Director will tell you when this is triggered, or you can choose in non-directed scenes. Once triggered, you will go to great lengths to get the answer.

Marchant: Arrogance. Intentional or not, you tend to come off as having an ego and thinking less of others.

Freeland: Hubris. You have a habit of getting in over your head and acting before thinking.

Lester: Temper. The Director will tell you when this is triggered, or you can choose in non-directed scenes. Must roll Spirit to resist lashing out (verbally or physically, up to you) in anger.

20 Point Quirks
Jilted Lover II

You have an ex present in the story, and he or she will try to make your life miserable. This level is a Supporting Role character played by another player. Can be a Useful NPC.

Faint Hearted

You have to make Freak-Out checks at any bloody or gruesome sight, not just when freaky things happen. Failure leads to the character passing out cold.

Big Favor

You owe someone else a big debt.

Can't Swim

It's vacation at a lodge on a lake. Everyone can swim. Everyone... except you.

Bloodline Bane

OPTIONAL. You can CHOOSE to take this, like any other Quirk.

Thistle: Creepy. All social rolls with people outside your family are at -1.

Bloomquist: Iron Allergy. All wrought and cast iron (cold iron) puts you at a -1 if within 10 feet.

Marchant: Severe Anemia. Cannot have Brawn over Normal, no Strength-related Positives.

Freeland: Catastrophe. Any failure that is a Straight results in horrible consequences of TD's choice.

Lester: Lunacy and Silver Allergy. On the full moon, you are -1 to all Spirit rolls EXCEPT intimidation, which gets an additional +1. Silver causes a -1 to rolls if in skin contact.

Tasted Blood

Restricted to SENIORS ONLY. In the past month before the story starts, you tasted Vampiric blood without realizing it, and are now one step down the path to becoming a Vampire. The side effects so far are minor, and you don't even consciously notice them or that anything is wrong. You're clueless for now.

The sun's a bit bright to you now, and you try to avoid it where you can, but it's Havasu and it's hot so that's not too strange. You struggle to wake up in time for school and feel more awake at night. Again, this may not even be something new for some of you.

Other things may come up in Directed scenes.

30 Point Quirks
Jilted Lover III

You have an ex present in the story, and he or she will try to make your life miserable. This level is a PC.

Doomed

You're going to die in a horrible way. When the time comes for your character, no rolls are made, no GP can be spent. Your time is up.

Supporting Roles

You are allowed 2 Supporting Roles this story, one of each Age Group. They get any free Age Group Perks/Quirks. They can be distant relatives of Families, but not direct, and do not get Family Perks/Quirks. They cannot buy standard Perks/Quirks, either, and are basic SRs. Ideally they should be friends or co-workers, people outside the Family, to help populate the rest of the town.
