The Rogue is a different sort of opportunist driven by greed, curiosity, or whatever with little regard for laws, taboos, and social convention. Is it underhanded to just be very, very resourceful? The Rogue could care less. Rules and Laws are obstacles, not barriers. It can only make the acquisition more exciting! They circumvent a problem rather than tackling it head on, and change environmental and social conditions to favor their needs. Traps? Locked doors? People that like to say 'no' a lot? Not going to keep him from his goal. He'll undo or work around it.

Everything (and everyone) is an asset, and this resourceful bastard will try to cash in on that.

Archetype Roster Concept

Some people just can't stay out of trouble. They push the button, open the door, check the basement, or whatever it is they know they shouldn't. They can't help it. Adventure is fun.

In the Facility

Facility Persona

The Rogue is as patient as he is calculating and apparently South-African in origin? In encounters he tends to have few but deep connections and seems to honour those after each encounter. If you were to compare him to a cunning, wounded animal you wouldn't be off the mark. He wants 'out', is allergic to being toyed with, and devotes the entirety of his time to trying to find a way 'out' to prevent his grief from consuming him.

Still, he is driven to find something hat he can call his own, and the facility seems to have taken that too. Reluctantly he's moving forward.

Things That Linger

  • Emotionally guarded
  • Will read the room rather than let the room read him
  • Very protective of his things
  • Forgiving of grievances from 'encounters'
  • Will engage in serious conversation over whimsy
  • Very loyal to very, very few
  • Is not against unpopular but effective solutions
  • Willing to try everything to stress-test himself and the facility

The Rogue's Door

A man in a cloak, peeking out of the darkness and around a corner.

The Rogue's Room

The room looks almost a bit like a bunker or hold out shelter where someone might hole up and lay low after amassing fantastic wealth. The walls are a manufactured paneling, but the floor seems a polished wood. The dark, leather furniture is easily described as posh and comfortable forming a sitting area with low table on one side, and a bed that matches the tables in the other back corner and the hightop bar-style kitchen table.

Strings of bare light bulbs hang overhead even though ambient lighting came from...somewhere. Shelves and small compartments, and even hidden compartments, can be found everywhere. Points of interest include: Several gaming boards, weird knickknacks, an array of books (several of which are hollowed out), a small wine cabinet, and a separate bathroom with a large tub.

The whole space keeps the pervasive feeling of nice things taken and hidden away or being buried in the earth to keep safe. The Rogue has expensive taste for fine things he's not apt to give back any time soon.

Memento Mori

Alien Mutation

A portable data slate once used to hack into the main systems of the Hephaestus to blast the clamps, and to jettison the cargo hold getting rid of the Xenomorph aboard. There is slight acid damage to one corner along with some scuffs and gouges where it's been dropped, and once thrown at the alien, but is otherwise preserved.

Prosperity's Price

Two items: The is a folded daguerreotype of his late 5 year old son Gideon who was lost to the reaping 5 years before Prosperity. The other is the ring that once belonged to Caleb and Colorado's mother that he proposed to Addie DeWitt. The ring made it back to the Facility. She did not.

An envelope with LYLE written on it. Inside contains the deed to a 1969 Stylo Camaro named "Tawny". The other is a love letter written by Ethan Drake becore doing something very stupid, and exceptionally heroic.

No memento mori from this story yet.

Project Icarus

A cybernetic eye that glows faintly resting on one of a matching set of wedding rings made from some refined, industrial grate metal alloy. Non-magnetic.

Bonds of Blood

Cufflinks from Theodore - When Lucas and Landon managed to get back into their room after graduation there a pair of small jewelry boxes waiting for them. Inside each is a pair of simple gold monogrammed cufflinks. There's a note as well, written in Theo's hand. 'Dad bought me my first when I graduated high school. Every man should have at least one pair.'

The Last Road

No memento mori from this story yet.

What appears on the surface:

  • Speaks with a South African accent and slang
  • Average to tall
  • Blonde hair worn short
  • Has dimples if he ever smiles. If.
  • Rakishly good-looking
  • Almost always wears a serious expression

Literally my best everything. I fought so hard this whole time to getting our to find truth. In finding you I found an ability to love that makes our prison feel like a refuge. We might have the freedom to escape here, but if getting to hold onto the one thing I want for myself means I stay, and they win? Well then well done, Facility.
I will always have your back so long as you keep sharing.

The Beast 1.jpg

Every time we find new life we're standing back to back, us vs. them. I'd say I have his back but if he keep dying from headshots do I really? I tried in prosperity, but...i need to try harder. That's got to stop. He's the closest thing to family I've consistently had.

Colorado facility 1.jpg

Easy to talk to because the man understands fear implicitly. I think that's his gift, like a canary in a mine. If you want to know where the danger we need to be worried about it? Watch the guy with the allergy. He knows this though and doesn't complain, he just values what's important.

C. - My Partner in Crime

Quite literally the other half of my working brain, and once my twin brother. every time. I'd say we're too much alike for our own good but we keep surviving... and losing what matters most in the process. I have to ask are we really winning? Weirdly I think you've always been the other half of my coin, haven't you?

BV3 01.jpg

Keeps me from falling too far into my head, out of the sky but not into my head. There's an art to e holding onto the things that are important, but having the ability to say 'Okay, here's our plan to take another step, I don't know where it goes, but it's forward and we can't stay here' that most people miss or lack or bury in shallow escapism. Yes we'll make peace with the things that happened and keep moving forward.'

But now you've set food on my path, and it burns a hole in me that you have to know that loss, but my god you are never alone and there will be life for you. If my fingers are left bloody I will see to this.

The only person I ever met who hates the great trap this place is more than I do. Can you just not... throw your crockery at the coffee?

SR Hya2.jpg

Hyacinth Mackie (Slasher)

Sorority Sister
Hyacinth has a singular super-power to go from mega helpful to mega bitch in 0.02 seconds flat. She's majoring in Fashion which is to say she has exceptional taste and why she is part of the Zeta Eta Pi party and planning committee and why she will be the ideal trophy wife. Oh, let her tell you how. Notably she's judgmental, except for her sisters. She's determined for them to find and embrace their inner entitled spoiled princess. That's also to say this whole "outdoorsey" thing isn't even her bag, but like, her man's here and she's determined to be all up in his business until he asks her to take him back where she'll "Think about it". It's all written in the Crazy Stalker Ex-Girlfriend manual on pages 8-21.

Rogue Candice1.gif

Candice Flick (Slasher)

Housekeeping & Model Employee
She might somehow be the only person on staff to successfully sleep with none of her co-workers. The consummate overachiever, Candice not only does her work obnoxiously, and terrifically well, but she always tries to challenge herself to go above and beyond. Difficult customers? On it! She truly believes in the mission statement and drank all the rah-rah Kool-Aid.

She also is a woman of strong principles she believes it is her mission to shepard troubled souls onto the right path. It's from a place of love and earnest belief that God is testing her and would not give her something she couldn't handle.

When she met Lyle Lucas she rolled up her sleeves and got to work after Ethan broke his heart because...well he's Ethan being Ethan. This would be a lot easier if Lyle would let her help rather than run, hide, and try to make her life a nightmare. Really acting out is a cry for help, right? This has only made her double down on her efforts.

Ooooh if she can fix him? Well she'll really get good marks getting into Heaven for certain... if she doesn't kill him first.

Inali (Carnival)

Sidekick (The People)
Inali is the great-granddaughter of Coyote. It's complicated. Animal spirits man. She's most often seen accompanying the 'old man' or in the company of Missing, running and hunting up rodents because, let's be honest, her granddad is a terrible hunter. She looks after him and makes sure he doesn't starve and helps keep an eye on the people for him. Who ever suspects fox spies?

Tai Tang (Bonds of Blood)

You know there's that lunchroom table with all the burnouts at it. That table with the people who have given up on conformity? Tai's fount there, or after school, or in shop class, or een behind the bleachers. Duuuuude he's always holding and is in the principle and councilor's office he's started taking memos for them. Like you want to talk? You need someone who like totally cares and shit? You need a hook up or have a couch that needs sleeping on then Tai is your Guy!

Brenda Lang (Bonds of Blood)

P.A. to Bank Manager T. Marchant
(...& future wife >.>)

She was hired not by Theodore to be his personal assistant but Robert, the bank President. It's not often someone who is an accomplished actuary would take a role as such, but with a strong head for business and a cutthroat approach to executing the Bank's directives she rose quickly into positive attention.

From a good family and fluent in French she finds herself in good standing to keep Monique happy on Theodore's behalf. Theodore is good with business and terrible with empathy. This is why she translates for the world. It'll be easier when Theodore is on board with the total plan, but as it remains she is the hand that makes his vision manifest.

Sprocket (The Last Road)

Weather & Explosive Ordinance Detector
While holding out against a raiding crew the Warkids dirty treats were on the menu. Desert fox is some damn fine eats. Vishys found in the process an orphaned infant fennec and rather than leave it there put her in pocket and took her with him back to the garage.

With a nose like no other she's become adept and useful at forecasting weather patterns by picking up the scent of the ozone or dust on the wind and feeling things as animals do and alerting her human.

Her other primary function is to see things Visnys can't which often manifests in being bitten so he looks that way. Less useful. She also has been trained to sniff out certain smells like explosives and gunpowder, and the like. More useful! This is great for finding explosives, guns, and ammo salvage.

Cade (The Last Road)

Savvy Pharmacist
Cade and his twin brother were separated by the caste system when his brother fell ill. Shame that. Always curious, and genes now suspect he was picked up by the Savvy after showing a want to try to not help but 'fix' the problem that was making people sick.

As he grew up he focused on finding everything he could about drugs, chemistry, and fixing the systemic issues not for one, but all. For now he helps the Organic Mechanics treat their patients, occasionally solving problems for Ph control of the water, and other chemistry conundrums. Maybe one of these fixes will help keep his brother alive? Maybe someday they can stop all of this so there's plenty again and no need. Maybe. For now there is work to do.

Francis Sinclair (Alien Mutation)

Mining is a means to an end. It gets you a paycheck while you go from place to place, stealing, smuggling and trading your way to fortune. You help Driscoll with his little 'operation' on the Heph, stashing things in cargo, making sure it gets through the docks. It's good money. Good enough that you have your own side-line going without him. You couldn't really care less about the ship or if it keeps hauling - you like some of the crew well enough, but that's personal. Business is business. If cashing out gets you enough to start your own smuggling operation, you'll take it.

Caleb Colton.jpg

Caleb Colton (Prosperity's Price)

This is the confident, younger son Roger Colton sends to resolve problems on his behalf. A shrewd businessman he makes the effort to be fair in Roger's stead, but when fair fails that's where Caleb really shines. Clever and charismatic, Caleb is quick in negotiation with words or with iron, but always has a plan and an faint smile to go with it. There's more than an ace up this gunslinger's sleeve and he's not afraid to pull that card and use it. He is the embodiment of "If you treat your people well, they don't question how the fortune finds them" and he sees his people are treated very well.

Lyle Lucas (Slasher)

What's a kid from a wealthy family to do when his parents live apart but aren't technically divorced and all he wants is a goddamn hug? Steal shit, that's what. And when they don't notice, or worse, don't seem to care? You still bigger shit. Do this long enough and - provided you don't go to jail - you get good at it. Lyle got very good at it. He never did get that hug, though.

Now he's out of school, has no interest in college and even less in being home - Mom or Dad's - so he fucked off and got a job fixing plumbing at the Eager Beaver Lodge because why not? He continues his greatest passion, lifting various things from guests as they come and go. His big boss knows about it but doesn't seem to mind, so in return he helps the old Vet out here and there. It's not a career path or a way of life, butt it's enough for now.

Coyote (Carnival)

Coming To America - Chasing the Sun

In the beginning the Earth was Frozen and cold and the Night God went about making the stars creating a path between the heavens and the mortal earth. Some say Coyote came here when he stalked a path connecting the heavens to the 4th world creating the Milky Way. He battled the 10 evil moon gods to free the sun and bring warmth, and fire, to the land of eternal winter to allow the humans there to know light and joy. Man rejoiced and Coyote laughed.

There are many legends shared as Coyote's people lived in harmony with his many children. He taught them how to survive, how to listen, and how to be clever in getting and creating the things they need. Conversely, he has also taught his humans the dangers of creating traps for their greed, arrogance, and carelessness. Sometimes he has taught by his example as his heart is often bigger than his brain in seeing the holes in teh path ahead of him. Above all, he loves his people, and loves to be loved by them.

Dog Without a Bone

The last hundred years have been heartbreaking for Coyote. Many of the gods joined the carnival to seek adulation in a world they are abandoned in. Not Coyote; his people never stopped loving him, but there are those that have been forcing his people to stop being. With the gentrification of North America being pushed by industrialism the way of live for the Tribes of Coyote are dwindling. They lose land, their way of life, and many are forced to abandon their very culture to conformity for the sake of survival.

Having found Missing Coyote takes his stories now with him joining the Carnival of the very gods that were brought over by the people who destroyed his. They travel the circuit that follows the migration paths of his children and their lost tribes checking in on them, and bringing them word from one another, a story, some hope to hold onto that Coyote has not forgotten them. In the big top he narrates the beauty of Missing's dance with bears and music keeping the lost legends alive to delight one more child to remember the animals are listening. In the Midway he's been selling stories and legends with trinkets and jewelry to those that seek to find, and get them to believe enough that they can keep him long enough he can help his lost survive.

He is a lost romantic in love with a time that is over trying to consort with his people's hope helping them remember their prayers for help to figure out how to endure are not wasted; so his people know they are loved and not forgotten.

Old Dog's New Tricks

One more time around the circuit. Those whose love burns like the stolen sun will survive being hunted and endure never to be extinguished.

These days Coyote tells his stories as the bally for the sideshow. It suits him fine. Everyone needs help, and he made the promise to them he would not forget them or let them be forgotten.

SSgt. Malcolm MacLeod (Project Icarus)

Ssgt. Malcolm MacLeod served with the Colonial Marines running special ops focusing on infiltration and removal of difficult targets. He met his future spouse, K.J. a doctor of Bio-Engineering, when an unlucky sniper took his eye while on assignment. They, and Mal's brother, built and installed test bionics to rebuild it. After he put in his 10 years he retired, He and KJ got married, and he turned his skills into a formidable career as a freelance security consultant. It was very Norman Rockwell Retired Government Assassin in Space(tm) for a while and life was great. He can retire happy now and get out of the lifestyle?

He could until 5 years ago when Pneumbra needed an expert for a mission and KJ was called to be the Bioengineer on the Icarus I. It should have been 16 months. It's never just 16 months. How do you say good-bye to your loved one for one mission, and then find out you’ve lost your soulmate altogether? Months grew into years and Malcolm became detached and resentful until he heard about a mission to find out what happened to the Icarus I. Unable to let go of the past, or this opportunity, Mal put old skills back to work. He sabotaged the newest recruit to be sent to the launch site and joined the security detail using his identity, and sneaked aboard the Icarus II for one more mission. He can’t rest without answers, but will the answers ever let him rest again?

JOURNAL: Eye Cam feed

Lucas Marchant (Bonds of Blood)

The other half of the boy thought to be the son of Karl and Beth Lester, that turned out not to be the case. More than likely the cause of Karl and Beth's divorce. Really, see Landon for details on that. After being thrown away and rejected by he father that raised them he has strong feelings on that. Like his brother, he has been proud if not overly eager to prove to Robert Marchant that he was right in grooming them for greatness in the family's name. Landon is the planner, Lucas is the salesman and the executor. With the twins' questionable upbringing he's very good at getting what they need and what they want.
