The proverb 'He who won't listen, must feel' epitomizes the fate of children who refuse to believe that stoves are hot simply because they've been told. Like these children, the Heretic takes nothing on faith. Likely to distrust or disagree with what anyone else says, he wants knowledge, more than anything, but he needs to find it out for himself. Received wisdom is no wisdom to the Heretic.

Archetype Roster Concept

You're a troll, a provocateur, always saying what no one wants to hear. Someone has to, because people need to hear it. You're the devil's advocate of every situation.

Amy Hill (Slasher)

Lodge Staff - Grounds
Amy grew up in Beaver Lake with her twin brother, Thomas. She works on the grounds of the Eager Beaver Lodge. Friendly, direct, and bright of outlook, Amy likes to tackle challenges head on. Especially challenges shaped like bullies.

Thomas Hill (Slasher)

Thomas Hill and his sister, Amy, grew up in Beaver Lake. Their father, a historian, was always reserved, but withdrew completely into himself after the death of their mother. He also stopped teaching, requiring the family to live on the meager and inconsistent income from his books. Thomas and Amy, who were too young when this happened to remember any other way of life, had to raise themselves without much help from anyone. As a result, they have an unusually close bond, even for twins, and tend to feel that they can rely only on themselves and each other, in the end.

In every other respect, however, Thomas and Amy are opposites. Amy is an outgoing, friendly, and athletic girl who loves the outdoors. Thomas is allergic to everything, including most people, and prefers indoor activities, like reading. He found early in life that he could learn just about anything without the least trouble. He also found that he was more intelligent than most people he met, including adults, and came to look down on and despise them. Thomas seized on this advantage: for he wants to get out...

But out, at this point, is a dream neither Thomas nor Amy has reached. Both want to make something of themselves, but for financial reasons, have come only so far as the nearest and most affordable college. Amy, with more initiative than Thomas, pressed her brother into part-time work with her from an early age, intending to save enough money to start a new life one day. For the last few years, the twins have come to the Eager Beaver Lodge to work in the summers. Amy works outside, on the grounds. Thomas works in the lodge. He despises the lodge, his work, and the guests, as he despises most people and things.

Yet: there are a few curious characters here, from whom Thomas indeed feels he might be able to learn something interesting one day...

Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you

I don't think that I can really survive

I'll never break my promise or forget my vow
