The Athlete is a seeker after a prize. The prize, in whatever form that might take. They will sacrifice and strive and put in any amount of work necessary to attain it.

An athlete is one who competes in a contest to win the prize. It could be a goal they have set for themselves, fame, riches, or even their life. Possessed of strong minds and extremely capable bodies, athletes have the willpower necessary to prepare endlessly for the next challenge and the one after that.

You're strong, or fast, or coordinated - or all of the above. You're also a competitor, pushing yourself to do more and be better at every opportunity.

In the Facility

Facility Persona

The Athlete is usually upbeat and optimistic, though he experiences the occasional deep swing into melancholy. Some dwell in the mind or in the heart, but the Athlete dwells within the body. His connection to the present and his senses means that he seldom spends time ruminating on the past or planning too far ahead.

A hopeless, and sometimes endearing, optimist with a heart two sizes too big.

The Athlete's Door

The Athlete's door seems to show the image of a running man in the warps and burls of the wood.

The Athlete's Room

The Athlete's room actually resembles one of the many, many impersonal hotel rooms that a professional athlete might stay in while traveling. There's no doubt that it is nice; short carpet in a neutral beige, cream walls, and blonde wood with accents of mahogany. The king sized bed is enormous. In fact, it is long enough to fully fit someone of the Athlete's height without his feet draping off the end of the bed.

There is no television, the first sign this isn't a hotel room at all, but there is a nice desk where one might be and a comfortable office chair to go with it. Stationery, bearing no letterhead, is neatly stacked and ready for use. The art on the walls are all seascapes with great crashing waves, painted by the likes of Aivazovsky and Moran.

The walkthrough closet and all of its drawers are filled with assorted athletic related apparel--who the hell is Body Glove and Under Armour, anyway? It's almost all athleisure, jeans, tees, twenty-six varsity letter jackets (one for each Latin letter, natch), and a single black tuxedo.

The bathroom is definitely a hotel bathroom, but at least it is upscale. Everything comes in tiny, single serving packages. Single serving toothpaste. Tiny bars of soap. Little tubes of lotion. The shower, at least, has a ceiling mounted shower head so the Athlete doesn't have to duck and scoop to get clean. Likewise, that bathtub is big enough for two people... or one lanky Athlete.

It's nice, but the only things that seem at all personal is a Walkman on a shelf and the oil paintings.

If there was one sport that the Athlete wouldn't be good at, it's going to be sumo. He's built like a decathlete or a basketball player; tall, lean, and muscular. He seems to be at the apex of youthful vigor, somewhere in his late-20s, after he has finished growing and before he begins the slow, ruinous slide into middle age.

Rita (Carnival)

Magician's Assistant
Rita, known professionally as The Majestrix, is the assistant to Warren Dumont in his escape artistry show. She is a capable magician in her own right, both as assistant and able to perform her own small illusions. She generally uses this in service to distracting the audience from how long the escape takes.

Warren Beausoleil (Slasher)

Growing up in the country, Warren did a lot of running and swimming as a kid - there's simply not a lot else to do. He did decent in school, ran track and was on the swim team, both as a distance/endurance racer rather than speed, but his knack for hitting threes on the basketball team landed him a scholarship in-state. Now he competes for the Ducks.

He is a country boy at heart, a bit wet behind the ears and unaccustomed to big campus life and modern culture. He joined a fraternity to try and broaden his horizons, and is slowly adjusting to the frenzy and pop culture that surrounds him. He's pretty much your all-American, small town boy.

Hermes as Houdini

First Story: Slasher

A waking world of innocence

So grave those first born cries

When life begins with needles and pins

It ends with Swords and Knives

Tears for Fears - Swords and Knives

Out of the Woods

Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you

I don't think that I can really survive

I'll never break my promise or forget my vow

But God only knows what I can do right now
