Rules and responsibilities: these are the ties that bind us. We do what we do, because of who we are. If we did otherwise, we would not be ourselves. I will do what I have to do. And I will do what I must. - Neil Gaiman, The Sandman: Book of Dreams

Sometimes you just have to stick to your guns. An ideology, rule of law, loyalty to a person or group, or even just a plan. Once you've set a course in motion, you just have to follow it through. After you've started, there's no time to turn back, and no sense in second thoughts. Self-doubt will only hold you back. Even a bad plan is better than none at all. So you keep your head down and push forwards. Always forwards. There's no time to go backwards, and no point in looking to your sides.

Archetype Roster Concept

Every story has a dominant paradigm, and you follow it. The world is the world, the system is the system, and the rules are the rules. Without that structure nothing makes sense or has meaning.

Role in Bonds of Blood

Danielle, known as Dani to most, is one of the older children of Amber Lester, if not one of the more responsible ones. Mostly. Like the majority of her family, she's got a hair-trigger temper, one that's got her into trouble and fights more times than she can count. Dani's wild, aggressive, feisty, and sometimes outright vicious when set off by the slightest provocation, but as an adult with responsibilities, bills to pay, a job to keep, and a family business to help run, she's got to keep that shit reasonably contained.

During the day, she works as a mechanic and assistant manager at Lester's Auto where the facade of professionalism is required - at least in regards to the social aspect - but by night, Dani gets to be herself. Off the clock, she can let her hair down, give the world the finger and let loose. Reasonably. She frequents the clubs down in the English Village, primarily Reflections, though occasionally blesses the Marchant operated Kokomo with her presence. When the work mask comes off, she's aloof, rude, and sometimes a total bitch. She doesn't take shit from anybody.

True friends are few, relationships and hookups are even rarer - Dani's just not an easy person to get close to. Unless you happen to be something automotive. Some days she simply tunes up her beloved Bonneville or cleans it up to spotless perfection, other days she lounges in her screened back patio, lighting up a joint to try and mellow the fuck out. She's got her own modest home on Vagabond Drive, just off of Route-95 on the southeastern edge of town, close to city limits, where she's got all the privacy to do whatever the hell she wants.

1988 Les Harris Triumph Bonneville: The Bonneville is Dani's pride and joy. Amber purchased the wrecked Triumph from one of the part-time snowbirds back in '89 when Dani turned 18. It had been trashed and totaled, but it could be fixed - with a good mechanic. Thankfully Amber is a damn good one and Dani is close on her heels, so it became a fixer-upper mother-daughter project. It took a few years, but between the two of them, it was fully restored with a custom paint job. And that engine? It purrs like a kitten.

Hair-Trigger Temper: It's a Lester thing. Dani tries to keep it under control when necessary, but she's been known to fly off the handle and lose her shit at the slightest provocation.

Wacky Tabacky: As an adult with responsibilities and a job, Dani tries her damnedest to keep her temper and shitty attitude under control - or at least managed. Smoking helps to a degree when she needs to keep up the professional image at the family business, but once she's off the clock? It's ganja time.

Clubbing: Most nights out are spent in either Kokomo or Reflections - predominantly the latter. For Dani, it's one more thing to take the edge off, one more thing to help her relax. Until something or someone provokes her. She parties (mostly responsibly), losing herself in the music, the sway of bodies, and the booze.

Lester Loyal: Family is everything and the Lester's matter a great deal to Dani, whether she shows it or not, likes you or not. If you're a Lester (Uncle Karl's ex's not included), you're one of her own, and through thick and thin, she'll have your back. Outside of family, she doesn't hold a great amount of care, concern, or respect for much of anyone, and those who have earned it are rare.

Grungy Grease Monkey: Taking after her mother, Amber, Dani is a grease monkey through and through. It's a love of hers, fixing and repairing, taking things apart and putting them back together, better than they had been before. Then there's her whole..punk-grunge phase she's going through.

Brawn: Normal
+ Scrapper (Positive)

Fighting seems to be the most commonly shared Lester hobby, and Dani's been in her fair share of them growing up. She can brawl with the best of them, and boy does she whale the tar out of those she gets her hands on.
+ Resilient (Positive)

Tough-as-nails like her mother, she can take a beating as much as she can give one, always getting back up until it's over. Always springing back either until she can't, or the other person is flat on the ground.
- Smoker (Negative)

A smoker for five years, Dani isn't as bad off as some who have been puffing cancer sticks for decades longer. While she does have her youth and good health, her stamina and endurance has suffered when it comes to intense physical activity - she gets a little winded. No marathons for this girl.
Finesse: Normal
+ Sharpshooter (Positive)

When you and trouble are best friends, you never know when it will come knocking at your door. She's made more enemies than friends, and sometimes fists just aren't enough to keep you safe. The girl can shoot, and doesn't often miss.
+ Stealthy (Positive)

Dani can move with a quiet step, go unheard, maneuver about her environment without so much as a scuff of her shoe on the ground. Most of the time, you won't even know she's there (unless you're a Lester).
Brains: Normal
+ Situational Awareness (Positive)

Most of Dani's learned skills revolve around trouble, and she's been in enough of it to have awareness of her surroundings, how to gauge it and the situation, to read it well enough to get out of it safely.
Spirit: Good
+ Head Turner (Positive)

Dani's good looking, and she knows it. A whole pretty package with an Arizona tan most would kill for, long blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes. Too bad what's inside isn't nearly as nice.
- Stubborn (Negative)

Like a mule.
+ Strong-Willed (Positive)

The girl has determination and drive when she's dead set on what she's put her mind to. Never gives up.
- Aloof (Negative)

Cold. Distant. Not particularly friendly, she doesn't go out of her way to make friends or get close with people. She keeps outsiders at arms length and is largely indifferent to nearly everyone - unless you're a Lester.
- Bitch (Negative)

Let's face it. Dani isn't nice. She's rude, aggressive, foul-mouthed, and doesn't give a shit if she hurts you or your feelings. Sometimes she's downright malicious, intentionally - especially if she doesn't like you.

Perks and Quirks

+ Area of Expertise (Free): Mechanic (10pts)

Dani was born with the blood of the Grease Monkey, she's had a love for working on cars, bikes, any vehicle, anything automotive, for as long as she can remember. With her Mother being a mechanic, it was natural, and everything that came with it just followed. She took automotive classes in Jr. High and High School, then went on to the community college upon graduation where she received her Automotive Technology Certification along with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business and Entrepreneurship. Dani can work on damn near anything.
- Adult Mindset (10pts)

Adult Mindset makes you try to rationalize and explain away the supernatural, even when experienced firsthand. Secondhand stories are immediately rejected and rationalized, and firsthand encounters require a Spirit Check - a failure means you start to believe as your adult mindset cannot shut down the possibility that Something Really Happened. A successful roll means your mind re-writes what happened to something more believable (he wasn't flying, he just jumped!).
+ Bloodline Trait (Free): Lester (10pts)

Keen senses and animal friendship. Get +1 on any roll involving their senses, and can roll Spirit to befriend animals and interact positively with them.
- Bloodline Taint: Lester (10pts)

Temper. The Director will tell you when this is triggered, or you can choose in non-directed scenes. Must roll Spirit to resist lashing out (verbally or physically, up to you) in anger.
+ Bloodline Boon: Lester (20pts)

Can roll Spirit to trigger Freak-Out in others through feral intimidation - even Vampires. An exceptional success puts the target at -1 on the Freak-Out Check.
- Bloodline Bane: Lester (20pts)

Lunacy and Silver Allergy. On the full moon, you are -1 to all Spirit rolls EXCEPT intimidation, which gets an additional +1. Silver causes a -1 to rolls if in skin contact.
+ Adrenaline Boost (10pts)

Can add an additional +1 die. Once per Scene.
- Jilted Lover III (30pts)
+ Found Item (20pts)

At a crucial moment in the story, you can find an object or item you desperately need. Can only be used once per story.

Uncle Karl

Factory Foreman

Mechanic and shop owner, Karl's sister

She really is the best of us, and I couldn't ask for a better Mom. Most everything I know about being a mechanic I learned from her, it's a shared passion we have that's formed a strong bond.

Cousin, Morrison

Factory Worker/Boxer

Not-Cousin, Landon

Senior in High School

One of the Cousin-Not-Cousin twins, they were a part of our family for twelve years, and for a good few of those I was the designated babysitter. Did my best to help take care of the little shits, and even though they're off in Marchant land now, it changes nothing. Still try and look out for them, even if from a distance.

Cousin, Lennon

High School Student

Little cousin, occasionally was the babysitter for this one, too. She was always independent, finding her own way, eventually moving along to go do her own thing. Sometimes it's like looking at a younger version of myself, though I can't be blamed for any habits she picked up. That "do what I say not what I do" bullshit doesn't stick.
